Joong Do Kwan International

About JDK International
Joong Do Kwan promotes a dynamic approach to Traditional Martial Arts; blending traditional source material with a modern training methodology. The training centers on practicality, adaptability, and handling unknown yet predictable situations.
Deep insight into martial arts doesn't arise from a focus on techniques nor technicalities nor other minutia. The techniques, and forms in fact will reveal themselves from a clarity of form, and function.
At Joong Do Kwan, we emphasize training methodologies that challenge and nurture each individual's growth. Our curriculum is designed to promote lifelong fitness, enhance mental acuity, and foster a deep connection between mind, body, and spirit. We believe in equipping our students with the skills and mindset necessary to excel not only in martial arts but also in all aspects of life.
Beyond physical training, Joong Do Kwan is a community of like-minded individuals passionate about martial arts. Our school embraces a rich heritage that honors traditional values while supporting its community and nurturing individuals. We celebrate diversity, promote mutual respect, and encourage continuous learning for all.
About Our Schools Headmasters
Colin Wee
I’m Colin Wee, a martial arts instructor with over four decades of experience. My journey began in Singapore in the early 80s, led me to the Southwest USA, and then to Australia.
In 2000, I founded Joong Do Kwan in Perth. Over the years, I’ve focused on the human element in every practitioner, developing their abilities, and pushing growth areas. I believe in teaching rank-appropriate tactics and empowering self-guided learning.
Outside the dojo, I’m an avid cook, blending French, Italian, and Spanish cuisine with Asian influences. Writing is another passion, and I’ve contributed to magazines like Totally Taekwondo and Taekwondo Times.
Looking forward, my goal is to continue developing JDK and teaching, perhaps even writing another book on the further development of the martial artist.
Martial arts have given me many opportunities in life. The mental visualization techniques help manage stress in various situations, the training provides emotional balance, and the exercise keeps fitness at an all time high. It would be a pleasure to connect through social media and platforms like Goodreads if you’d like to talk about what you have gained from your practice.
I want to be remembered as someone who shared knowledge without reservation, thought deeply about the legacy I’ve been gifted, and made martial arts accessible. When I launched Breaking Through: The Secrets of Bassai Dai Kata, the gratitude from high-level black belts affirmed my efforts, showing me the value of reaching out to like-minded people in the martial arts community.
I look forward to connecting and sharing more of this incredible journey with you.

Will Just
Hello, Will Just here! I hope to use traditional martial arts as a framework for personal development, life alignment and tactical proficiency.
I have about three decades of martial art experience and two decades of teaching experience. My martial art journey has led me in many directions, training 4-6 hours a day 5 days a week for much of my childhood. I have been involved in may sport style martial arts such as Olympic style Taekwondo, MMA, kickboxing, Jujitsu, boxing, events as a young athlete, and a few events that were… let's say, “not sanctioned”. I also was fortunate to train with several applied combat systems and karate systems.
In 2010, I began seeing the effects of cumulative injuries. A major source of injury was from unrealistic training methodology. Most predominantly, cumulative head injures. The injuries became chronic as well as my symptomology. This had an obvious impact on my collage years, and I did not want to limit my potential early in life.
I then utilized the energy I had previously invested into martial arts, for other things. I became a paramedic and wildland fire fighter. I began to do contracts for FEMA, U.S Forrest Service, and sub contract in the wildland fire environment. I became well versed in advanced wilderness life support, combat medicine, as well as high angle rescue. I worked on a high angle rescue team, which was generally deployed to wildfires. I have managed Field Hospitals and disaster relief efforts, as well as rehabilitation services and counseling services for individuals.
I have lived off grid for 15 years in 48 states, always moving because of my particular professions. I have lived in vans, in sailboats, under tarps, in yurts, and at times nothing at all. At 15 years of being a paramedic, and eight years of moving from disaster to disaster, the mental and physical toll can be difficult to bear. At times, I would be completely isolated for months and all I could do was set up my tarp and practice Kata to seek sanity.
This is when I began to understand martial arts from a whole different perspective. Through traditional martial art practice, a great path appeared! I was introduced to Sensei Colin Wee.
There have been people in my life whom I owe a great deal of gratitude. Guides, teachers, family, and friends. Colin is one of those people.
Colin has been such a blessing in my life. He has impacted my life significantly. Traditional martial arts is really the cover story to a deeper exploration of the mind and the human being. Colin has mentored me for countless hours, willing to train day or night. He has spent hours of his time diving into this cover story. I feel a great deal of gratitude for this.
"We can honor our mentors by honoring our training." I dedicate JDK USA LLC as a way to honor Sensei Colin Wee, and hope to share the wonderful journey of traditional martial arts to others.
